Project Overview

Midwest Formwork was awarded the Substructure and RC Frame Contract for a new Accommodation Building at the University of Surrey, Guildford for Barnwood Construction Ltd.

The Substructure consisted of a mix of Pile Caps and Ground Beams on Cellcore and Claymaster ground heave protection systems. The Ground floor slab is approximately 910m2 encompassing 1 no. Lift Pit and 2 no Staircore bases.

The RC Frame consists of 3 Suspended slabs each approximately 730m2 in size. The Suspended slabs were constructed using Doka’s Dokaflex Table Formwork System. RC Columns, Shear Walls, Lift Walls and Staircore walls were constructed using traditional Doka Pan Shuttering systems.

Approximately 240 tonnes of rebar were fixed for both the Substructure and RC Frame. Other items include the fitting of anchor and holding down systems for Steel Frame integration and Cladding connections.

Construction commenced in May 2011 and was completed within Programme.
